Cristóbal Colón, un navegante genovés, sueña con abrir una nueva ruta hacia Asia que acorte las rutas comerciales. Colón ha solicitado en vano el apoyo de Francia, de Inglaterra y de Portugal, pero la empresa ha sido juzgada como poco factible por todos, y los expertos españoles, después de estudiarla en profundidad, la rechazan también. Cristobal Colón, a pesar de estos inconvenientes, consigue ser apoyado por el padre Marchena y por el armador Martín Alonso Pinzón, y el Banquero Valenciano Luis de Santángel, quien le promete una audiencia con la Reina Isabel de Castilla. Isabel da su aprobación al proyecto. Cristóbal Colón zarpa entonces sabiendo que el viaje es mucho más largo de lo que decía, pero el 12 de Octubre de 1492, 'La Pinta', 'La Niña' y 'La Santa María', atracan en una pequeña Isla del Caribe la llamarán San Salvador. |
